2 held with stolen microbuses at Hatirjheel

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested two suspected members of an organised theft gang along with two stolen microbuses from the capital’s Hatirjheel area.

 

The arrestees are Md Anwar Hossain, 42, son of late Rahim Uddin of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur and Md Abul Kalam, 47, son of Jainal Abedin Akando of Barguna Sadar.

 

Lieutenant Colonel Arif Mohiuddin Ahmed of Rab-3 said on information, they conducted a drive at  Hatirjheel around 1.15pm and arrested the duo with the two microbuses, one mobile phone set, two SIM cards, two NID cards, one visa card and Tk 3,894 in cash.

 

During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed that they used to take vehicles on rent from owners and then stopped contacting them, the Rab officer said.

Later, they used to sell the vehicles to a third party at a cheap rate using  a fake signature of the actual owners, he said.

 

The drive will continue against such theft gangs, he said adding that legal action was taken against them.
