Dhaka: The Ministry of Shipping has suspended two senior officials from the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on allegations of bribery. This move comes after directives from Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Rtd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspended officials are Additional Director (Marine) Md Abdur Rahim and Deputy Director Md Obaidul Karim Khan. The allegations suggest that the two officials accepted a bribe from a contractor, promising to secure a contract for supplying fuel to the department.
In response to these allegations, the Ministry of Shipping has established an inquiry committee tasked with investigating the details of the incident. The committee will determine the validity of the allegations and recommend appropriate departmental actions against those involved.
