GAIBANDHA, Jan 1, 2017 (BSS) - Police in several drives detained a total of 18 suspects, in connection with the killing of ruling party, MP, Monzurul Islam Liton, for interrogation in the last few hours till Sunday morning.
According to sources, Liton was shot from point blank range by some miscreants in his village home at Masterpara near Bamondanga rail station under Sundarganj upazila on Saturday evening around 5.45 pm.
After firing MP Liton, the miscreants left the place hurriedly by a motorcycle. Then, bullet hit Liton was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared him dead at 7.30 pm.
Meanwhile, Sundarganj upazila Awami League enforced a daylong hartal from Sunday morning in the upazila protesting the murder.
The agitated leaders and activists of Awami League blocked two trains at Bamandanga Railway Station in the morning.
After the incident, police conducted raids in different areas and detained 18 persons of the upazila so far for interrogation.
Additional police super, Circle A, Robiul Islam told BSS correspondent that an interrogation cell was also formed to interrogate the detainees to check whether they were involved or not.
Liton would be buried at his family graveyard on Monday after Asr prayer.
