Chattogram: The Coast Guard has seized 1,500 litres of edible oil worth nearly Tk 255,000 in Chattogram's Patenga while it was being unloaded at a jetty for illegal marketing, evading customs duty and taxes. The information was disclosed today in a press release signed by Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard conducted a special drive on Thursday night in the Charpara Ghat adjacent area under Patenga Police Station in Chattogram. During the operation, 1,500 litres of palm oil, worth about Tk 255,000, were seized as they were being brought ashore for illegal marketing, having been unloaded from a ship after evading customs duty and taxes.
However, no arrests were made since the smugglers managed to escape after sensing the presence of the Coast Guard. Legal procedures regarding the seized edible oil are currently underway.
