15 hurt as villagers clash in Brahmanbaria

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Boraibari village in Sarail upazila of the district on Friday.

The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital and different clinics in the area.

According to locals, Haris Miah, of Boraibari village of the upazila and Soleman Miah had been at loggerheads for a long time over establishing supremacy in the area.

Supporters of Soleman Miah locked into an altercation with followers of Haris Miah on Thursday and beat one Jalal, leaving him injured.

Injured Jalal on Friday went to Sarail police station to lodge a complaint. Being agitated, supporters of Soleman Miah again attacked the followers of Haris Miah.

At one stage, both groups locked into a fierce clash that left at least 15 people from both sides injured.

Md Shakhawat Hossain, superintendent of Brahmanbaria police said, being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

"Efforts are on to arrest those involved in the clash, " said the officer, adding that police have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward situation.
