Khagrachhari: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized 1,400 rounds of ammunition during a special drive in the remote Boudhmoni Para area of Panchhari Upazila in Khagrachhari district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lieutenant Colonel Md Robiul Islam, Commanding Officer of Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB), stated that the operation was carried out based on intelligence information on Friday afternoon.

A patrol team from the Boudhmoni Para Border Outpost (BOP), under the Panchhari Battalion (3 BGB), took strategic positions at the Kathaltali passenger shed area. Around 4:00 pm, the team observed four individuals on two motorcycles approaching along the border road. When challenged by BGB personnel, the suspects abandoned their motorcycles and fled into the nearby hilly terrain.

Upon searching the scene, BGB recovered 1,400 rounds of ammunition in an abandoned condition. As the patrol team transported the seized ammunition back to the BOP, they encountered a group of approximately 100-110 armed individuals attempting to surround them.

Additional patrol teams, led by Acting Commanding Officer Major S M Imrul Kayes, were dispatched from the battalion headquarters to support the BGB personnel. The presence of reinforcements caused the attackers to gradually retreat. BGB reported that the situation was brought under control and efforts are ongoing to identify those involved in the incident.

Lieutenant Colonel Md Robiul Islam emphasized that BGB remains vigilant in preventing smuggling and the trafficking of illegal arms and ammunition along the border.
