Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today announced that the party will nominate candidates for reserved women’s seats who have actively contributed to movements and possess the capability to speak effectively in parliament while maintaining a good reputation in society. Rizvi made these remarks during a press briefing at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi stated that around 500 nomination forms for the reserved women’s seats were sold yesterday, with distribution and submission continuing until tomorrow. He emphasized that the BNP follows an established democratic process in selecting candidates, allowing interested individuals to collect and submit nomination forms along with necessary documentation for consideration.
Rizvi highlighted the party’s long-standing struggle to create an environment conducive to free and fair elections, emphasizing the importance of utilizing this democratic space fully. He underscored the expectation from the public that all political parties, including both ruling and opposition, adhere to democratic norms and ensure accountability.
A significant portion of his address was dedicated to acknowledging the contributions of women in past movements and struggles. Rizvi noted that many women have faced arrest, repression, and harassment for expressing their independent views, including on social media platforms. He expressed optimism that the party would nominate deserving women who have demonstrated their roles in movements, are capable of participating in parliamentary activities, and enjoy societal respect.
