Dhaka: Fourteen platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been patrolling Dhaka city and adjoining Narayanganj and Gazipur districts to strengthen security measures and maintain law and order. BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam informed that the Ministry of Home Affairs has taken this decision as a precautionary step to ensure public safety ahead of the International Crimes Tribunal-1's expected announcement of the verdict date in a high-profile case.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, 12 platoons have been positioned at various strategic points across the Dhaka metropolitan area, while two additional platoons have been stationed in the Narayanganj and Gazipur City Corporation areas. The deployment comes amid heightened security measures in and around key government offices, court premises, and major intersections of the capital, indicating a proactive approach to prevent any untoward incident.
Law enforcement officials have intensified patrols and stepped up surveillance as part of the security strategy. Senior officials from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and district administrations of Narayanganj and Gazipur confirmed that coordination meetings were held earlier in the day. These meetings focused on reviewing the overall security situation and allocating forces in line with identified needs.
Meanwhile, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 is poised to announce the date for the verdict in the case against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her close associates on charges of crimes against humanity. The case has garnered significant public attention both domestically and internationally, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace during this period.
