14 Lakh Litigants Receive Legal Aid at Govt Expense Through NLASO

Dhaka: More than 14 lakh insolvent litigants have received legal aid services at government expense through the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the legal aid services were provided from 2009 to March 2026, as detailed in a recent report published on the NLASO website. The report highlights that legal advice services were extended to 266,997 women, 294,109 men, 2,407 children, and 69 individuals identifying as third gender during this period.



Additionally, the report outlines that legal aid in cases was provided to 227,285 women, 233,129 men, 2,224 children, and five individuals of third gender. Under the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism, legal support reached 153,111 women, 170,340 men, and 70,832 children.



Furthermore, the hotline service facilitated the dissemination of information services to 10,041 women and 7,287 men. Overall, the total beneficiaries comprised 657,334 women, 704,865 men, 75,463 children, and 74 third genders, culminating in a total of 1,437,736 people receiving legal aid services at government expense.



The National Legal Aid Services Organization has been providing this essential legal assistance under the Legal Aid Act. The activities of the organisation are implemented under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
