14 Jamaat leaders, activists arrested in Chandpur

Police arrested 14 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday while they were holding a ‘secret’ meeting in Chandpur.

They were sent to Chandpur Court on Friday after the police filed a case under the Special Powers Act, 1974.

The arrests were made following a tip-off, around 10 p.m., while the Jamaat members were holding a secret meeting at the Talimul Quran Nurani Hafizia Madrasa and Etimkhana in Shahrasi upazila’s Suchipara village, said Md. Shahid Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shahrasti police station.

“Some party books and money receipts were recovered from their meeting. Chandpur Court sent them to the district jail today,” he said.

The arrestees are Comilla Jamaat Leader Maulana Mizanur Rahman, 43, Shahrasti Upazila Jamaat Ameer Mostafa Kamal, 44, Jamaat leader Jalal Hossain, 30, Shamsul Arefin, 33, Maulana Imam Hossain, 33, Parvez Hossain 30, Mosharraf Hossain, 50, Md. Kausar Khan, 53, Shohrab Hossain, 46, Maulana Zamir Hossain, 27, Md. Jahangir Alam, 48, Md. Jasim Uddin, 43, Hafez Akhtar Hossain, 35, and Akhtar Hossain, 44.
