Dhaka: The interim government has initiated a significant step by forming an 11-member Advisory Council Committee to oversee the overseas employment of Bangladeshi nationals. This newly established committee is tasked with enhancing and managing the employment opportunities for Bangladeshis abroad.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Advisory Council Committee will be led by Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Adviser to the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry, as its convener. This decision was officially communicated through a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division. The formation of this committee will take immediate effect, as it seeks to address various aspects related to the global employment of Bangladeshis.

The committee will receive assistance from a group of seventeen senior secretaries and secretaries, including the Cabinet Secretary and Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser. The remaining members of the committee include notable figures such as Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Foreign Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, and Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, among others. Each member brings a wealth of experience and expertise from various sectors to the table.

The primary responsibilities of the Advisory Council Committee involve coordinating activities related to overseas employment, formulating guidelines to expand and explore new labor markets, and proposing strategies to tackle challenges in this domain. Additionally, the committee is tasked with ensuring the welfare of Bangladeshi workers abroad, preparing guidelines for safe and orderly migration, and focusing on skill development.

Furthermore, the committee will work on suggesting methods to increase legal remittances and formulating policies for the reintegration of returning migrant workers. The Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry will provide the necessary secretarial support to facilitate the committee’s operations.
