A total of 10 candidates including four chairman, four vice-chairman and two woman vice chairman withdrew their nominations today from the upcoming upazila election to be held on May 8, 2024 in Nachole, Gomostapur and Bholahat upazilas of the district. The candidates who withdrew their nominations are- vice chairman candidate Md. Durul Hoda and woman vice chairman candidate Mst. Rashida Khatun in Nachole upazila, chairman candidates Abdullah Al Raihan and Md. Sirajul Islam, vice- chairman candidates Md. Khairul Anam and Md. Obaidur Rahman in Gomostapur upazila, chairman candidates Md. Al Amin and Md. Iazdani Alim Al Raji (George), vice chairman candidate Md. Lokman Ali and woman vice chairman candidate Mst. Shahnaj Khatun in Bholahat upazila. Earlier, 16 candidates submitted their nomination papers to contest in the polls in the post of chairman, 15 candidates for the post of vice-chairman and 12 candidates for the post of women vice chairman, Chapainawabganj District Election Office sources said. In Nach ole upazila, a total of 10 candidates in which three for the post of chairman, four for the post of vice-chairman and three others for the post women vice chairman submitted nomination papers. But the nomination of one chairman candidate was cancelled. Now, two chairman candidates, three vice chairman candidates and two woman vice chairman candidates remained in the electoral race in Nachole upazila. In Gomostapur upazila, a total of 19 candidates in which six for the post of chairman, seven for the post of vice-chairman and six others for the post of women vice-chairman submitted their nomination papers. Of them, four chairman candidates, five vice chairman candidates and six woman vice chairman candidates remained to contest the polls. In Bholahat upazila, a total of 14 candidates submitted nomination papers. Of them, seven candidates filed nomination papers for the post of chairman, four candidates for the post of vice-chairman and three others for the post of women vice chairman.
