1 killed, 3 hurt in courier service covered van blast in city

A worker was killed and three others were injured in an explosion in an explosion in a covered van of a courier service in Hazaribagh area of the capital early Monday.

 

The deceased was identified as Elias alias Yeasin, a staff of Metro Express Courier Service and Parcel.

 

The explosion occurred around 12am while unloading goods from the covered van carrying bakery chemicals and mosquito coils in Boubazar area, said Khaleda Yeasmin, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters control room.

 

On information, two units of fire service rushed to spot and extinguished the blaze.

 

The explosion may occur due to the chemical products transported through the covered van, she suspects.

 

The fire fighters recovered Yeasin’s body from the spot and rescued three injured people.

 

The three were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), said DMCH police outpost in-charge Nayek Ferdous.

 

Two the injured- Dilip, 40, and Ali, 25- were shifted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery with severe injuries, he added.
