Women’s Football: Magura, Rajshahi reach semifinals

Magura and hosts Rajshahi reached the semifinals of the eight-team JFA-U-14 National Women’s Football Championship 2021 from Group B, beating Faridpur and Khulna Saturday.

The winners will face each other Monday at 4pm at the same venue to decide the group champions.

In the day’s match at Rajshahi’s Shahid Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium, Magura crushed Faridpur 8-0.

For the winners, Rima netted four goals in the 32nd, 39th, 50th and 62nd minutes; Sonia struck twice in the 40th and 56th minutes and Arpita scored one in the 39th minute. Faridpur’s Pujari scored an own goal in the 69th minute.

Earlier, Magura made a flying start to the final round of the JFA-U-14 National Women’s Football thumping Khulna 8-0 in the first match.

In Saturday’s other match, hosts Rajshahi booked a place in the semifinal beating Khulna 4-0.

Shonkranti, Archana, Tahmina and Karnaphuli scored one goal each for Rajshahi in the 16th, 19th,44th and 45th minutes.

Earlier, the hosts made a good start to the competition hammering Faridpur 6-0 in their first group match at the same venue.
