US Embassy dismisses BNP leader Hafizuddin’s claim over sanctions on CEC

The US Embassy in Dhaka has dismissed BNP Vice-chairman Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed’s claim over sanctions imposed on Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

“No new designations have been announced,” US Embassy (Dhaka) Spokesperson told UNB when asked about the authenticity of the BNP senior leader’s claim at a programme.

Visa records are confidential under US immigration law, the Spokesperson added.

The BNP leader was heard saying in a programme that the CEC is the latest person on whom the US imposed sanctions.

He, however, did not elaborate about his source of such a claim.
