Ekushey Padak winning veteran journalist Toab Khan has joined as the Editor of Bengali daily ‘Danik Bangla’ which is going to be republished under a new management following a hiatus of two decades.
Toab Khan was also the first editor of ‘Dainik Bangla’ which changed its name from ‘Dainik Pakistan’ after Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.
The seasoned journalist, who started his career in 1953, also served as the press secretary to Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after Bangladesh became independent.
Until recently he was the advisory editor of the ‘Daily Janakantha’.
Toab Khan was welcomed on board as the editor of Dainik Bangla on Wednesday and was greeted with flowers by the president of the editorial board Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat.
He reminisced about his colourful journalistic life on the occasion. “I was also the editor of Dainik Bangla before. Now it will be published in a new form. This is very good news for journalism in Bangladesh,” he said.
Highlighting the challenges of modern journalism, he said, “There should be a striking difference between the Dainik Bangka of that day and the Dainik Bangla of today. Readers psychology and the modern day newspapers have evolved.”
Chowdhury Nafiz Sarafat expressed his excitement over getting Toab Khan as the editor of Daily Bangla saying, ‘We have got a living legend as our editor.”
“Toab Khan is a beacon as a journalist. Dainik Bangla will move forward in a new way by holding the flame of the light that he has spread in his long journalistic career. We believe that under his leadership Dainik Bangla will become popular again,” he said.
