Thanks to Bangladesh’s sloppy fielding once again, West Indies posted 142 for seven in their third match in the Super 12s of the T20 World Cup despite losing some early wickets on Friday at Sharjah.
Nicholas Pooran smashed 40 off 22 balls, the highest runs for the West Indies, while debutant Roston Chase scored 39.
Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets but conceded as many as 43 runs in four overs with 19 in the last over with three sixes.
Mahedi Hasan grabbed two wickets in his first three overs conceding only 11 runs while Mustafizur scalped one wicket removing Evin Lewis in his first over.
West Indies lost Chris Gayle, Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer inside eight overs of their innings for 39 runs.
Mahedi ended up taking two wickets conceding 27 in four overs, but the all-rounder also dropped two easy catches. Afif Hossain also missed a catch.
Afif missed a catch from Jason Holder while Mahedi missed Chase twice.
In the last five overs, West Indies scored 72 runs losing only three wickets.
Shorfiul Islam, the left-handed pacer, also bagged two wickets for Bangladesh conceding only 20 runs in four overs.
Bangladesh made two changes to their playing XI including Soumya Sarkar and Taskin Ahmed to replace Nurul Hasan Sohan and Nasum Ahmed.
Nurul has been ruled out for an injury, and Nasmu was rested.
Bangladesh lost the first two matches of the Super 12s stage, and West Indies have also lost their first two matches.
So this match came as a chance for both the teams to keep their Semi-finals dream alive.
Bangladesh took on the West Indies in 13 T20Is before and won five of them.
West Indies have won two T20 World Cups while Bangladesh are yet to register a win in the Super 12s stage.
