Sinha murder trial: arguments remain incomplete on the third day

The closing arguments in Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder trial remained incomplete after a Cox’s Bazar court adjourned leaving OC Pradeep’s chief lawyer Rana Dasgupta’s arguments incomplete.

The arguments were presented before District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Ismail who heard the arguments from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesday.

The prosecutors expect the arguments to be completed by Wednesday.

They said this was preplanned murder as Sinha was shot even after the APBN saluted him.

Prosecutor Muhammad Jahangir said Sinha’s case had become a matter of self-defense, self-confession and suicide for the police as after trying so much for face saving finally they will be punished.

During the arguments 15 accused including former OC of Teknaf police Pradeep Kumar Das were present at the court.

On the night of July 31, 2020, Major (retd) Sinha was shot dead by police at Shamlapur checkpost in Teknaf’s Baharchhara.

On August 5, Sinha’s elder sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous filed a murder case against nine people, including Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das.

On December 13, 2020, RAB brought charges against 15 people, including police source Ayaz and three APBN members, in connection with the murder.

December 21, 2020, a Cox’s Bazar court accepted the chargesheet.
