Samsung have recently unveiled their most sought-after foldable devices – Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 . Back in history, in 2020, the first Galaxy Z Flip marked the debut of the new Galaxy Z branding. The Z Flip also introduced the redesigned hinge that is the forerunner of the hidden hinge featured on both the Z Flip 3 and the Z Fold 3. These devices have been released on 11th August 2021. This review will have a take on all the key features of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. Stay with us!

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G Full Review

The Look and Feel

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 hasn’t appeared to be significantly changed from its direct predecessor Z Flip. However, as we know, appearances may be misleading, and once the phone’s held by the hand, all the invisible features come to light.

Unlike its all-glass predecessor, Z Flip 3 has used an Aluminium frame with glass around its camera module. Its dimensions and weight have been almost the same, and the new phone feels much balanced to handle. The dimension for the phone is 166 x 72.2 x 6.9 mm when it’s unfolded, and in the folded position, it keeps 86.4 x 72.2 x 15.9-17.1 mm dimension. Aluminum is easier to grasp, so the Flip 3 5G will not slip out of a moist hand.

The phone’s comforting firmness has likely come from the hinge design, which feels more stable and also more secure than that of the previous Flip phone. When flipped, the Z Flip 3 becomes virtually square, and the breadth remains like an ordinary smartphone.

The phone is on sale in a variety of colors, including Phantom Black, Pink, Gray Green, Cream, White, Lavender. However, some are only available on Samsung’s official website depending on users’ location.

Display

When flipped, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 features a 6.7-inch dynamic AMOLED display. Its 2640 x 1080 resolution coupled with a refresh rate of 120Hz creates a very stunning viewing experience. The Flip 3 gives a smooth scrolling performance, demonstrating Samsung’s real display brilliance.

When not flipped, the 1.9-inch touchscreen controls music displays the weather and even allows you to take photos. Users can also use the touchscreen as a viewfinder. This is a significant improvement for the Flip 3, and it makes the phone more useful while closed.

In comparison to the first Flip, the Flip 3’s redesigned cover display is better and powerful. It’s quite versatile and helpful, allowing users to engage with many important phone operations without having to start the device.

The Lenses on the Back

The rear cameras of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G are identical to the previous Flip. On the rear, there is a 12MP wide-angle with a 1.8 focal length camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera with 2.2 focal lengths. The absence of a telephoto lens in the Galaxy Z Flip 3 creates a sense of void.

If the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is to compete with the greatest camera smartphones on the market, it will have its work cut out for it. The camera upgrades on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 are mainly software-based, including improvements to its portrait mode and indoor shooting.

The dual-camera setup supports HDR quality and also has the OIS active. For videos, these cameras offer a recording capability of up to 4K resolution at 60 fps.

The Front Lens

Samsung hasn’t changed the front camera setting also. The same lens used in the original Flip smartphone has been introduced here. It is a 10MP wide lens with a focal length of 2.4. The camera supports HDR and gives an extra quality bounce to the taken pictures.

Daylight shots have more details and accurate color depicting ability. In night hours, less availability of daylight hampers the overall quality of the pictures, but it is still considerable. The front camera performance could be better for the Samsung Z Flip 3 5G. The phone records video at up to 4K at 30fps.

Performance, Software and UI

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 offers several minor performance improvements over its ancestors. The most notable among them is being the adoption of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, the highest-end Android CPU available.

The phone is rather strong to operate when swiping through various menus or apps for its CPU and 8GB of RAM. Games on the phone using Snapdragon 888 cores run pretty smooth and without any, so it’ll most likely be a strong gadget.

The skin used in the phone is Samsung’s OneUI, which is a fork of Android with a difference of the company’s applications tossed in – like with many other Android reskins. What you think of it and the associated bloatware is mainly a matter of personal preference.

Battery Life & Charger

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 keeps the previous Flip’s battery capacity with a 3,300 mAh battery. This is the cause for caution, given the Flip’s battery life was not very outstanding. The 3,300 mAh is much less than that of other different Samsung phones, including the standard Galaxy S21, which has a 4,000mAh battery.

We tested the battery in both refresh rate modes and neither produced a satisfactory result. The Flip 3 only lasted 5 hours and 43 minutes in adaptive mode. It lasted significantly longer in 60Hz mode, at 6 hours. A 15W small charger takes up to three hours to fully charge the battery.
