United Commercial Bank (UCB) PLC has introduced agricultural loans for farmers.
UCB handed over a loan of Tk2.1 crore to 71 farmers of Khagrachari at the Marma Unnayan Sangsad Community Center Tuesday.
Small ethnic groups are extremely poor or marginalised by all possible standards of human dignity and human development; agriculture is their only source of livelihood. So, UCB has taken up the project to help the small ethnic farmers, according to a media statement.
Sachaingpru Chowdhury, Mong Circle Chief (Majesty) of Khagrachari Hill District, who was present on the occasion, said: “Farmers here think that private banks mean a lot of hassle, but this idea has been changed by UCB.”
“Our farmers try again and again to get a loan from different banks, but they cannot get it due to various complications. And earning a living has become more difficult for the farmers amid the Covid-19 pandemic. So, I would like to thank UCB for standing by our farmers with easy unsecured loans,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Arif Quadri, additional managing director of UCB, said: “We are very happy to be able to stand shoulder to shoulder with the farmers of Khagrachari during this crisis moment.”
“This is the first time we are giving a loan of Tk2.1 crore to 71 farmers. Also, we have opened a new branch in Khagrachari and will try to stand by the farmers in the areas where there is crisis and disaster,” he added.
