JM Sen Hall puja mandap attack :16 remanded for a day

A Chattogram court has granted one-day remand to 16 people in connection with an attempted attack on JM Sen Hall puja mandap in the city.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Hossain Mohammad Raza passed the order after a hearing on Monday.

Chattogram City Police Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamrul Hasan said that in the case filed at Kotwali police station, seven-day remand was asked fir 16 accused.

The 16 accused are Iftekhar Uddin, Touhidul Alam, Delwar Hossain, Jabedul Islam, Masud Parvez, Md. Humayun, Md. Anwar, Khalid bin Walid, Syed Moin Uddin, Md. Russell, Md. Sohag, Ayub Ali, Amir Hossain, Omar Faruque, Nurul Islam and Khorshed Alam.

On Friday (Oct 15) afternoon, police arrested 83 people based on the video footage of an attempt to attack the JM Sen Hall puja mandap. Kotwali police sub-inspector Akash Mahmud Farid filed a case against them under the Special Powers Act alleging assault on police and incitement to religious violence. The case was filed against 83 named accused and more than five hundred unknown persons. The next day, on Saturday, 83 people were taken to court. Of them 9 are children and 74 adults.
