Islamic University in Kushtia announced Saturday it is waiving transport and hall fees for all its students for the period June 2020 to June 2021 – coinciding roughly with its Covid-19 closure.

The decision was made at an emergency meeting held at the university chaired by IU vice-chancellor Professor Shaikh Abdus Salam.

They took the decision considering the students’ thoughts, IU vice-chancellor said. The matter will be considered again if the campus is closed for more time due to Covid-19, he added.

IU pro-vice-chancellor Professor M Mahbubar Rahman, treasurer Professor M Alamgir Hossain Bhuiya, transport administrator Professor M Anowar Hossain, acting registrar M Ataur Rahman, among others, were present on the occasion.

Earlier, Bangladesh Chhatra Union IU unit demonstrated on the campus from January 9 to 13, demanding the waivers since the campus was closed.
