Chinese telecom giant Huawei has been honoured with the Pioneer 5G Partner Award by the Posts and Telecommunications Division of Bangladesh for its support in launching 5G in the country.
Tao Guangyao, chief operating officer of Huawei Bangladesh, received the award from Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar at the first 5G launch event in Bangladesh Sunday.
The programme “New Era with 5G” was organised at a city hotel.
Initially, 5G networks will be deployed at six sites located around the secretariat, the Bangladesh Parliament area, Prime Minister’s Office, Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, National Monument in Savar, and the mausoleum of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, Gopalganj.
Most of these areas will use the infrastructural support provided by Huawei.
Mustafa Jabbar said, “This is a memorable day for Bangladesh. 5G is not just another technology like 2G and 3G. We cannot face the fourth industrial revolution without embracing 5G. 2G and 3G can satisfy our day-to-day needs, whereas 5G can go much beyond that.”
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman Shyam Sunder Sikder said, “We hope that other operators will also launch 5G in Bangladesh next year alongside Teletalk. We have already taken preparations to allocate a new spectrum for them. I hope they will enter 5G after the auction next March.”
Zhang Zhengjun, CEO of Huawei Bangladesh, said: “We believe 5G will change society with diversified applications for individuals, homes, and industries. Huawei will always be there to facilitate Bangladesh with its innovative technology because we are in Bangladesh, for Bangladesh.”
At the event, a temporary 5G site was launched, and the audiences experienced AR/VR services, learned about innovative 5G use cases, experienced 969 Mbps speed and 4~10 ms latency first hand.
