Hindu community members staged protests in Chowmuhani Bazar, Noakhali and gathered on Noakhali-Feni regional highway defying section 144.
The protestors took position on the highway around 10:30 am carrying a dead body with them.
Earlier, the local administration issued the prohibitory order from Saturday 6 am to 6pm in Chowmuhani municipal area in the wake of tension triggered by the incident of ‘desecration’ of holy Quran in Cumilla.
On Friday, some miscreants in Chowmuhani Bazar area vandalized and mad arosn attacks on puja mandaps, Hindu temples and some shops.
To keep the situation under control, additional troops of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action battalion (Rab), armed police and other law enforcement agencies were deployed in the area.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamsun Nahar said the situation in the area is peaceful after the imposition of section 144.
