FBCCI seeks to extend loans moratorium facility until June 2022

President of FBCCI Md. Jasim Uddin sought loan moratorium facility to June 2022 as economic activities are yet to become normal and affected traders are still in dire straits.

He urged Bangladesh Bank to announce the extension of the moratorium facility as soon as possible.

Jasim made the call from the annual general meeting of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) held at the Officers Club in the capital on Sunday.

The FBCCI president said extending the debt moratorium period would bring relief for traders and speed up economic recovery.

At the AGM Jasim urged the National Board of Revenue (NBR) not to hurry through the new income tax law. The new law should be enacted in consultation with all stakeholders, including the FBCCI, BGMEA, DCCI and other trading organizations, he said.

Bangladesh will have to face some challenges in the aftermath of LDC graduation. Businesses from all walks of life in the country need to work together to meet these challenges and take advantage of the potential of developing countries.

He said Bangladesh will become a developed country by 2041 through joint efforts of all.

Jasim said the FBCCI is participating in the meetings of the National Committee headed by the Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister office and various sub-committees under it to address the post-transformation challenges in developing countries.

At the same time, the process of setting up an Innovation Center at FBCCI is underway to enhance the sector-based capacity.
