E-scams gone viral: Now Qcoom CEO placed on 2-day remand

A Dhaka court on Monday placed e-commerce platform Qcoom’s chief executive officer Ripon Miah on two days’ remand, in connection with a case filed with Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Asheque Imam passed the order when police produced him before the court seeking remand for 10 days in the case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Ripon’s counsel filed a petition seeking bail for his client.

Earlier in the day, detectives held Ripon Miah, the founder and CEO of Qcoom, on charges of fraudulence and embezzlement.

Ripon’s arrest comes at a time when the country’s e-commerce sector has been rattled by a plethora of scams of different nature coming to light, most infamously that of Evaly, inviting suggestions that scams are the latest viral entity in the country’s cyberspace.
