English opener Jos Buttler scored his maiden international century in the format, as well as the first by any player during the current edition of the ICC T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on Monday.
The 31-year old right hander from Somerset reached the landmark hitting a six over square leg off the last ball of the England innings, bowled by Sri Lankan right arm pacer Dushmantha Chameera.
He remained unbeaten on 101 runs off just 67 balls featuring six fours and six sixes helping England to score a good total of 163 for 4 in 20 overs against the Island nation, scoring his second fifty runs in just 22 balls.
With the day’s feat, Buttler emerged as the 4th English batter to score century in the T20 Cricket. Only one of the previous occasions has been in a World Cup, by Alex Hales in 2014.
Riding on Buttler’s knock, England posted a total of 163/4 off their 20 over, after having been in trouble early on, slipping to 35/3.
