Bangladesh envoy to Jamaica presents credentials

Ambassador Rabab Fatima has presented her credentials to Governor-General of Jamaica Sir Patrick Linton Allen in Kingston, the capital of Caribbean island-state Jamaica.

Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York Rabab Fatima is concurrently accredited Bangladesh High Commissioner to Jamaica with residence in New York.

High Commissioner Fatima conveyed the greetings of the President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh to the Governor General; and the people and Government of Jamaica.

“I shall make all efforts to further strengthen the existing excellent bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Jamaica”, the High Commissioner mentioned during presentation of her credentials.

She said that Bangladesh and Jamaica work closely in different international for a including the United Nations and the Commonwealth, and there are tremendous potentials to further deepen and expand bilateral relations at every front.

The Governor General wished High-Commissioner Fatima well and expressed the hope that during her tenure the existing bilateral relations will be further strengthened.

Before presentation of her credentials, High Commissioner Fatima had a courtesy meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, Kamina Johnson Smith.

The Foreign Minister praised Bangladesh’s development efforts and said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visionary leadership is well recognized globally. “She (PM Hasina) is a role model on women leadership.”

The Foreign Minister of Jamaica and the Bangladesh High-Commissioner discussed various issues of mutual interests, and both expressed a keen desire to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries at different levels.

The High Commissioner mentioned that bilateral relations between the two friendly nations could be enhanced through regular bilateral consultations, exchange of business missions, cultural exchanges and people-to-people contact.

High Commissioner Fatima underscored the need for increased bilateral trade and investment between Bangladesh and Jamaica.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner proposed to sign an MoU for holding regular Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Bangladesh and Jamaica, which could be a platform for advancing overall bilateral cooperation between the two friendly nations.

She also proposed for high level exchange of visits between the two countries, and extended invitations to the Governor General and the Foreign Minister of Jamaica to visit Bangladesh.
