7 Rohingyas rescued while being trafficked to India, 1 held

Members of Rapid Action battalion (Rab) have rescued seven Rohingyas, including six women, while being trafficked to India from Ramu upazila in Cox’s Bazar.

At that time, Md Idris, a member of the racket trafficking them, was arrested, said Rab-15 Captain Khairul Islam Sarkar on Friday afternoon.

Acting on a tip off, special check post of Rab-15 was set up in the Cheinda area of Ramu on Thursday night and rescued the seven Rohingyas from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, said the officials.

Md Idris was trafficking them after alluring them, said Captain Khairul.

During primary interrogation, Idris mentioned the names of two others- Md Bashar and Syed Hossain- who are members of the human trafficking ring.

It is being investigated who is involved in this cycle, the Rab official added.
