Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan has stated that BNP’s founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, and Deshnetri Begum Khaleda Zia have made extraordinary contributions to the welfare of working-class people. He emphasized their significant roles in enhancing the dignity and rights of workers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nazrul Islam Khan made these remarks while paying homage at the grave of Begum Khaleda Zia, accompanied by leaders of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal and its Dhaka Mohanagar North and South units. He recalled Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman’s declaration of himself as a ‘worker’, which he believes honored and dignified the working class. The gathering paid deep respect to both leaders and prayed for them.
Nazrul Islam Khan highlighted that the existing labour laws since the British era were contradictory. In 2006, Begum Khaleda Zia formulated and approved the Bangladesh Labour Code, which now serves as the single governing law for labour movements and related state affairs. He further mentioned that Begum Khaleda Zia established the Labour Welfare Foundation to support the welfare of the working class. The foundation’s funds are currently being utilized to aid distressed workers.
He concluded by stating that development is impossible without production, and the main component of production is the working-class people. He called for respect and love for those who contribute to the nation’s progress.
