A 24-year-old youth committed suicide by jumping into Hatirjheel lake Saturday, police said.
The youth, whose identity could not be confirmed till the filing of this report, jumped into the lake from a bridge near Mohanagar Project at 12:45pm.
On information, Sub-Inspector (SI) Alamgir Hossain of Hatirjheel Police Station went to the scene and rescued the youth and whisked him off to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where he was declared dead around 1:45pm.
“We are trying to confirm the identity of the youth through fingerprint identification. The body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for postmortem,” the SI said.
