Police detained an 18-year old on allegation of strangulating his 12-year-old cousin after rape in Faridpur.
The detainee was identified as Rasel Shikder, son of Monwar Shikder From Rupapat union in Boalmari upazila.
A case was filed in this regard at Boalmari police station on Monday following a complaint received from the victim’s family.
According to police, on Sunday evening Rasel called his cousin home, where he was alone to pay back some due he had in her father’s shop.
Rasel raped her and strangled her to death with her scarf and left her body in the bathroom of the house.
Later the victim’s family member recovered her body and informed police.
The alleged was held from the upazila after being informed and the body has been sent for an autopsy, said Suman Kar, Assistant Superintendent of Faridpur police.
Investigation in this regard is going on, he said.
