Youth Dies Falling from Mango Tree in Gaibandha

Gaibandha: A youth of the district today died after falling from a mango tree at his father-in-law's house while harvesting ripe mangoes. The victim was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 26, son of Rashidul Islam, at Daodarpur Union under Sadullapur upazila of the district. He was also the son-in-law of Manik Miah, at Khanggua village of Sundarganj upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sundarganj Thana, Shaheen Mohammad Amanullah, stated that Shafiqul Islam arrived at his in-law's house on Tuesday morning to cut Boro paddy. After completing the task, Shafiqul climbed a mango tree in the late afternoon to harvest ripe mangoes using a raw bamboo stick.

Tragically, during the process, Shafiqul was electrocuted when the raw bamboo stick came into contact with an electricity wire passing by the tree. He got stuck in the tree as a result, explained the OC.

Upon receiving information about the incident, staff from the Rural Electrification Board rushed to the scene and, in the presence of police, recovered the body. The body was then handed over to Shafiqul's relatives following the lawful procedure required for burial, the OC continued.

An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed with the thana in connection with this incident, he added.
