Khulna: Police have arrested a youth from the Daulatpur area in the city early today for his alleged involvement in the murder of expelled Jubo Dal leader Mahbubur Rahman Molla. The arrestee was identified as Sajal, 27, son of Saheb Ali, a resident of the Moheshwarpasha area under Daulatpur thana.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station Mir Atahar Ali stated that although Sajal did not directly participate in the killing, he provided the attackers with detailed information about Mahbub’s whereabouts. This information enabled the assailants to carry out the murder. Sajal has been placed on a two-day remand for proper investigation.
The incident occurred on Friday around 1:30 pm when Mahbubur Rahman Molla, the former vice-president of the Daulatpur thana unit of Jubo Dal, was cleaning his private car in front of his house in West Moheshwarpasha. Three assailants riding a motorcycle opened fire on him, hitting him with nine bullets. The attackers also severed the tendons in both legs to ensure his death.
Following the incident, Mahbub’s father filed a case with Daulatpur Police Station against unidentified persons, seeking justice for his son’s brutal murder.
