Bagerhat: The World Tiger Day was observed in Sharankhola upazila of the district through various programmes today. The event took place in the Sharankhola Range under the theme 'Increase in Tiger Population, Prosperity of the Sundarbans', emphasizing the importance of tiger conservation and the health of the Sundarbans ecosystem.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, more than a hundred students from five schools adjacent to the Sundarbans participated in a series of activities, including a painting competition, a discussion meeting, and a rally held at Sundarban Secondary School. These events aimed to raise awareness among the younger generation about the significance of increasing the tiger population for the prosperity of the Sundarbans.
The function was graced by the presence of Assistant Conservator of Forests of Sharankhola Range, Rana Dev, who attended as the chief guest. Md. Asaduzzaman, the headmaster of Sundarban Secondary School, served as the special guest, highlighting the community's involvement in the conservation efforts.
The event also saw the participation of forest department staff, local residents, and dedicated members of the Village Tiger Response Team and the Community Patrolling Team. These groups play a crucial role in tiger conservation efforts and work tirelessly to protect the majestic creatures and their habitat in the Sundarbans.
