Jahangirnagar: World Statistics Day 2025 was celebrated on the Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus today with the theme "Driving change with quality statistics and data for everyone," highlighting the significance of statistics in policymaking, planning, and sustainable development.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a colorful rally was organized by the Department of Statistics and Data Science at 10:00 am to mark the occasion. The rally, led by Department Chair Professor Dr. Rumana Rois, included participation from both teachers and students as it paraded through various streets of the university.

During her address at the event, Professor Rois emphasized that statistics goes beyond being just a collection of numbers and serves as a crucial tool for guiding national policies and improving lives. She pointed out the potential consequences of incorrect data usage, such as using monthly data where daily data is required, which often leads to misleading outcomes in research and policymaking.

The main objective of the celebration, as highlighted by Professor Rois, was to raise awareness about the proper use of quality statistics and to promote its role in evidence-based decision-making.
