World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day Observed in Rajshahi with Focus on Humanitarian Efforts

Rajshahi: World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026 was observed under the arrangement of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Rajshahi City Unit. The event took place in the City Hall room of Nagar Bhaban, highlighting the significant contributions of the organization in humanitarian efforts.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and Chairman of Red Crescent Society Rajshahi City Unit, Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, attended the event as the chief guest. In his address, he praised the roles of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in serving humanity, especially during crises such as disasters, epidemics, and floods. He emphasized the tireless work of the organization in standing by helpless people during such times.



Mahfuzur Rahman Riton also highlighted the impact of Red Crescent’s activities in promoting humanitarian values, volunteerism, and social responsibility. He commended the exemplary role of Red Crescent volunteers in engaging the youth in humanitarian work and extended his gratitude to all volunteers and stakeholders involved in the welfare of humanity.



Furthermore, the RCC Administrator discussed a recently implemented 10-day pilot program aimed at removing silt from all city drains before the monsoon season to alleviate waterlogging issues. He expressed hope that Red Crescent members would take a leading role in resolving any waterlogging occurrences during the rainy season to minimize the inconvenience for city residents.



The event also marked the celebration of the 198th birthday of Jean Henry Dunant, where the RCC Administrator and other guests cut a cake in his honor. The ceremony saw the presence of notable figures such as Rajshahi City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Rezaul Karim, Secretary Sohel Rana, Vice Chairman of Red Crescent Rajshahi City Unit Rezaul Karim Raju, General Secretary Dr. Md. Shamim Hossain Chowdhury, and City Unit Officer Mirza Shamim Ahsan.
