Abu Dhabi:Bangladesh will observe World Mental Health Day 2026 on Saturday, joining other nations in raising awareness with the theme 'Lived Experiences Heard Real Voices, Real Change'. This day is marked annually on October 10 to promote awareness and educate the public about mental health issues.
According to United News of Bangladesh, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have issued separate messages for the occasion. President Alamgir emphasized the need for mental well-being, highlighting challenges such as economic instability, social unrest, and workplace pressures that impact mental health. He stressed that mental health is as vital as physical health and outlined government efforts to integrate mental health services into primary healthcare.
The President also called for increased public awareness about proper medical treatment and the importance of compassion and respect for those experiencing mental health problems. He urged stronger mental health programs in healthcare centers and educational institutions.
Prime Minister Rahman, in his message, underscored the importance of comprehensive health, which includes mental, spiritual, and social well-being. He advocated for eliminating stigma and discrimination around mental illness and emphasized the need for collective efforts to support those affected. The Prime Minister highlighted government initiatives to improve mental health services accessibility and quality, including expanding tele-counselling and training healthcare professionals at various levels.
Both leaders emphasized listening to and valuing the experiences of people with mental health conditions, aiming for meaningful change and improved mental health services in Bangladesh.
