Dhaka: World Health Day 2026 is being observed today across the country under the theme “Together for Health, Stand with Science”. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with the Directorate General of Health Services and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the health sector, have organised numerous programmes to commemorate this day.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman issued a message on Monday to mark the occasion. World Health Day has its roots in the adoption of the World Health Organization (WHO) constitution. The journey began in February 1946 when the United Nations Economic and Social Council decided to hold an International Health Conference. This conference took place in June and July of the same year, resulting in the WHO constitution coming into effect on April 7, 1948.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare held a discussion event at the Abu Sayeed Convention Centre in Shahbagh, Dhaka, at 10:30 am to celebrate the day. Additionally, the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh is observing a week-long service week from April 7 to 13, which includes various medical services and awareness programmes aimed at promoting health and well-being.
