Khulna: A training workshop for journalists on ‘Election time journalism’ was held here today to strengthen their capacity on election reporting. Khulna Deputy Commissioner A S M Jamshed Khondker was the chief guest of the workshop organized by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) at the local Circuit House.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop featured several notable speakers including the Convener of Khulna Press Club Enamul Haque, member secretary Rafiul Islam Tutul, assistant secretary general of BFUJ Ehteshamul Haque Shawon, president of Metropolitan Journalists Union Rashidul Islam, and general secretary Abdur Razzak Rana. The event was moderated by PIB’s Sanowar Said Shahin with Sultan Mahmud Badal present as the resource person.
The speakers emphasized the importance of maintaining neutrality during the election period, combating misinformation, and ensuring mutual cooperation between the administration and the media. Approximately 95 journalists from Khulna district and its nine upazilas participated in the workshop.
Speaking at the workshop, the Deputy Commissioner stated that there are clear directives from the highest level to curb illegal activities. He described the election situation in Khulna’s five parliamentary constituencies as ideal, noting that all candidates, including heavyweight contenders, are highly cooperative and that the number of complaints in Khulna is comparatively lower than in other districts.
