Khulna:Workers blocked the Khulna-Jashore highway for two hours on Tuesday morning in protest against the arrest of the president of a food warehouse workers' union and two others. The arrests were related to an alleged attempt to remove two truckloads of wheat from a silo without proper invoices.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the blockade started at around 930 am and was lifted at 1130 am after Sheikh Imam Hossain, the general secretary of the BNP's Daulatpur thana unit, intervened.

During the blockade, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the highway. The workers have threatened to resume the blockade if Md Arif Hossain, the president of the Maniktala Food Warehouse workers union, is not released. Meanwhile, loading and unloading activities at the Maniktala Food Warehouse were halted.

Police detained Arif, along with silo machine operator Mehedi Hasan and invoice preparer Mohammad Kamruzzaman, on Monday night after silo authorities intercepted the unauthorized wheat transport. Daulatpur Police Station OC Muradul Islam stated that the situation is now under control.
