Monpura: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter announced today that women fishermen will be prioritized in the upcoming update of the fishermen registration list. "Many non-fishermen have been included in the list of fishermen and this is unfair. Therefore, the list will be updated in such a way that no one can enter the list unfairly. The priority will be given to women fishermen in the list," said Farida while addressing a meeting with fishermen at Dhalchar in Monpura upazila.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farida emphasized the importance of highlighting the names of women fishermen on the list, even in families where male fishermen are present. She stated, "We want to give priority to women. Strict action will be taken so that no non-fisherman is allowed to enter the list."

Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain, also in attendance at the meeting, mentioned the construction of a 'ghat' (terminal) in the district. He noted that this development was in consideration of the hardships faced by the residents of Dhalchar, and it is expected to significantly benefit the local fishing community.

Following the meeting, both advisers distributed registration cards to fishermen from various fishing areas within Monpura upazila.
