Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the rape incident in Cumilla's Muradnagar. "The criminals who abuse women cannot have any political identity. They are enemies of human civilization. I immediately call for exemplary punishment for the miscreants who raped and tortured the wife of a Hindu expatriate," he said in a statement.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul stated that the brutal, shameful, and barbaric incident of rape and torture of the Hindu woman has shocked the people of the country. He alleged that a malicious group is involved in a deep conspiracy to politically divert the incident cowardly. Fakhrul criticized the practice, reminiscent of a fascist era, of occupying and torturing the homes of minorities and blaming others, stating that such actions are still ongoing.
Fakhrul further claimed that the molestation and violence against the Hindu woman in Muradnagar is a pretext to fulfill the political goals of a particular group. He accused the Awami League of repeating dirty tricks to destroy communal harmony and gain political benefits. He lamented that even after the fall of Sheikh Hasina's regime, instead of restoring harmony, such incidents are being perpetrated to achieve political goals.
He also highlighted that the accomplices of the fallen regime are well-equipped with money and engaged in a dangerous conspiracy to destroy the image of BNP by carrying out secret campaigns of violent terrorism, including violence against women. Fakhrul warned that miscreants feel encouraged to carry out violent activities because they have the blessings of powerful forces. He urged everyone, regardless of religion, race, or group, to resist the evildoers to build a healthy society and a safe state.
