Chandpur: A woman was killed and two others, including her brother, were injured in a head-on collision between a speeding truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Debpur area on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway in Sadar upazila this afternoon. The deceased was identified as Mahinur Begum, 38, wife of Nasir Tapadar of Tarpurchandi village under Tarpurchandi union of the upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred around 2:30 pm when Mahinur and her younger brother were travelling from Bakila in Hajiganj towards Chandpur town. The injured are currently receiving treatment at Chandpur Government General Hospital.
Locals reported that the auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a speeding truck while attempting to overtake another auto-rickshaw. The impact of the collision mangled the auto-rickshaw and threw it to the roadside, resulting in Mahinur's immediate death.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandpur Sadar Model Police Station Foyez Ahmed confirmed the incident, stating that police have seized both vehicles involved and detained the truck driver and helper. An investigation is underway, and legal actions will follow to determine the cause of the accident.
