Woman Dies in Bagerhat Building Fire: Blaze Engulfs Maisha Tower, Injuring Several

Bagerhat: A woman died and several others were injured as a fire broke out in a five-storey commercial building in Chitalmari upazila this morning. The fire erupted at Maisha Tower around 10am and quickly spread through the entire building.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, firefighting units were immediately dispatched to the scene and worked alongside the army and local residents to control the blaze. After approximately two hours, the fire was finally brought under control by 12pm, as reported by Md. Shahabuddin, Senior Station Officer at Bagerhat Fire Brigade and Civil Defence.

During the rescue efforts, the body of a middle-aged woman was recovered by police and fire service personnel from a clinic located inside the building. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been determined.

Deputy Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Ahsan stated that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire and assess the total extent of the damage. Maisha Tower, located on the main road in Chitalmari, is home to several establishments, including Sonali Bank, Agrani Bank, Bank Asia, insurance companies, a clinic, a beauty salon, and various shops and showrooms.
