Woman dies due to ‘wrong treatment’ in Narsingdi

A woman died while giving birth to a baby, due to alleged wrong treatment administered by doctors at Marie Stopes Maternity Clinic in Narsingdi on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Saleha Begum, wife of Hannan Miah of Shalidha area of the city.

Responding to the allegation, police have arrested two people including the manager of the clinic.

Relatives of the deceased said Saleha was admitted to the clinic on Friday for an ultrasonogram.

Helena Halim, a duty doctor, recommended a cesarean section. Though Saleha did not agree, she was taken to the Operation Theatre (OT), citing the child’s condition was not good.

Later, she was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Agitated relatives besieged the clinic and vandalised it.

On information, the mobile court visited the spot, said Md. Nurul Islam, civil surgeon of Narsingdi.

Legal action will be taken against the offenders, he said.
