Nilphamari: Wheelchairs, sewing machines, and tricycles were distributed among persons with disabilities in Nilphamari today in a ceremony marking International and National Disability Day. The event took place at the Zilla Parishad premises at 11:30 am, following a vibrant procession that began at the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 am and made its way through the main roads of the town before culminating in a discussion meeting at the Zilla Parishad auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the district administration, in collaboration with the District Social Services Department, organized the day's programs. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nairuzzaman attended the meeting as the chief guest, while the Deputy Director of District Social Services, Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique, presided over the event. Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Dipankar Roy and Additional Superintendent of Police Faruk Ahmed were present as special guests.
Assistant Engineer of the Zila Parishad, Rezaul Karim, spoke at the occasion, highlighting the initiative led by the Zila Parishad. This year, 96 sewing machines, 90 wheelchairs, and 20 tricycles were distributed to individuals with disabilities. Karim emphasized that the initiative aims to support distressed women and facilitate employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Event participants underscored the importance of ensuring equal rights, expediency, and social inclusion for persons with disabilities across all sectors.
