Dhaka: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is inviting the public to join its ongoing Ramadan fundraising campaign to help families facing food insecurity in Bangladesh. As part of this initiative, members of the public can donate directly to WFP via its official bKash account (0132246197, account name: World Food Programme) under the Donation section of the app. They can also donate online using this link: https://donation.bkash.com/en/wfp/donate, said the WFP on Tuesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, well-known personalities, including chef and writer Kishwar Chowdhury-who gained popularity in both Australia and Bangladesh following her appearance on MasterChef Australia Season 13 (2021)-have joined hands with WFP to lend their voices to the campaign. Kishwar emphasized the importance of supporting WFP's efforts, particularly focusing on women and children facing food and nutrition insecurity.
In Bangladesh, food insecurity remains a critical challenge. According to the 2025 Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis, around 16 million people were facing severe food insecurity, with many at risk of sliding into emergency levels without sustained assistance. Severe food insecurity means families often skip meals, eat less nutritious food, or go entire days without eating because they cannot afford or access enough food.
The findings underscore the urgent need for continued support to protect lives and livelihoods, especially as climate shocks and economic pressures persist. Simone Parchment, Country Director a.i., WFP Bangladesh, urged the public to extend generosity to families struggling to meet their basic needs. She expressed gratitude to Kishwar and other public figures for their support and called for more partners to join in the effort to build a hunger-free and prosperous Bangladesh.
