The well-marked low over northwest Bay and adjoining coastal area intensified into a depression and lies over northeast Bay off West Bengal-North Odisha coast and adjoining areas, said Met office on Sunday.

“It is likely to move northwestwards,” according to a special bulletin of the Met office.

Squally weather may affect the maritime ports, north Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh. Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal No 3.

Under the influence of the full moon and steep pressure gradient, the low-lying areas of the coastal districts and their offshore island and chars are likely to be inundated by the wind driven surge height of 2-4 feet above normal astronomical tide, it added.

The districts are Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalakathi, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Barishal, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram and Cox’s Bazar.

All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
