Meherpur: A seven-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair began today in the district with the slogan of 'Let's do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh.' Deputy Commissioner Sifat Mehnaz inaugurated the campaign and fair at a function organized by the district administration and Forest Department on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office around 10.30 am.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was presided over by Divisional Forest Officer, Social Forest Division (Kushtia) Md. Rezaul Alam. The function was addressed by several prominent figures including Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tariqul Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Abdul Karim, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Khairul Islam, District Education Officer Hazrat Ali, Deputy Director of District Islamic Foundation AJM Sirajum Munir, and District Forest Division Officer ST Hamim Haider.
Earlier in the day, a colorful rally organized by the district administration and forest department was brought out from the District Shilpakala Academy premises. The rally concluded at the Deputy Commissioner's office after parading the main streets of the town, marking the commencement of the week's activities. A total of 17 stalls have been set up in the tree fair, showcasing a variety of plants and promoting environmental conservation.
